Porta Nova

Family roots and a passion for excellence

Porta Nova was formed through the merger of three family businesses. In 2007, Aad van Luijk, Nico van Vuuren, and Leon Dukker decided to combine their knowledge, experience, and passion. Today, Porta Nova operates a modern 19-hectare rose nursery in Waddinxveen, led by Leon Dukker and Stefan van Vuuren, where around 300 employees work daily to produce the most beautiful Red Naomi’s with minimal impact on the environment.

Leading the way in sustainable rose cultivation

Central to Porta Nova’s sustainable approach is growing without the use of natural gas, fully transitioning instead to green energy. Since 2024, Porta Nova have achieved 100% renewable energy use, reducing their carbon footprint by 95%. Porta Nova also dedicates itself to responsible water management. Rainwater is collected and filtered through 'inland dunes' located on-site. Using closed-loop systems, 100% of excess water and nutrients are reused, ensuring that nothing is wasted.

In November 2024, Porta Nova introduced the most environmentally friendly rose: the Red Naomi FUTURA. According to the new European calculation method Flori-PEFCR, this rose has the lowest carbon footprint of all roses on the European market, at just 56 grams of CO₂ per stem. FUTURA represents Porta Nova’s greenest scenario, based on 2023 measurements and powered by 100% wind energy.
